Making the Invisible Visible: Designing Onboarding and Growth Experiences that Work
Description
We’ve all seen it happen: new hires who feel lost in the process, unsure of what’s next or how they’re doing. That moment of uncertainty isn’t just confusion; it’s a design problem.
In human-centered and employee experience design, visibility of system status refers to how transparent and understandable a process is to the person going through it. In other words, how well do people know where they are, what’s coming next, and why it matters?
This session will explore how visibility of system status can transform the way we approach onboarding and continuous development. When employees can clearly see progress, expectations, and success markers, they engage faster, learn deeper, and feel a stronger sense of belonging. When they can’t, confidence drops and connection fades.
Designed for you, this session bridges design thinking with practical talent strategies. We’ll unpack what visibility looks like in onboarding, identify common friction points, and share ways to bring clarity and transparency into your employee experience—no matter your industry or team size.
Proposed Learning Objective (1)
Explain the concept of visibility of system status and assess why it matters in talent development.
