Learning Objectives
Are you Participating or Non-Participating with Medicare? Maybe you don’t accept Medicare but do work with various commercial payors. The commercial payors and even many Medicaids have been adopting Medicare’s policies and cutting the reimbursement rates. With these recent changes, the DMEPOS supplier has been faced with changing their business model to now having to shift more of the cost to the beneficiary. Ronda and Dan will discuss how to effectively AND efficiently execute non-assigned claims when necessary and how to issue an Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) for upgrades when the beneficiary wants something better than what you can provide for the current Medicare allowable. Being efficient is essential given the current environment! All other healthcare entities are not afraid to make sure they get reimbursed whether it’s the patient, the insurance or both, the DME industry is not any different. Remember (being in the) RED is NOT the new Black and in order to remain profitable this new business model is critical when serving beneficiaries.
