Name
The Smoke & Mirrors of AI: Solving the Patient Processing Problem
Description

Why is it such a pain to get a patient quickly seen after being sent over by a referring provider? And why does every ‘AI’ demo look amazing but never seem to work in practice? This presentation explores this ‘Patient Processing Problem’, digs into the false promises of ‘AI’ and presents an alternative approach to addressing the inefficiencies with front-end servicing of patients, and how it’s leading to issues downstream. Attendees will gain insight into the structural causes behind slow patient transitions from diagnosis to treatment—by applying the principles of graph theory, linear algebra, and psychology (we promise not to get too nerdy). You’ll learn why popular AI and e-prescribe solutions have failed and how technology that respects the nuances of healthcare data can actually drive operational efficiency, alleviate workload, and ultimately reduce the “weighted graph” of the healthcare system.

Proposed Learning Objective (1)
Analyze the real-world market dynamics that unfold when you focus intensely on the time it takes to go from patient information to clean reimbursement (front-end patient processing).
Proposed Learning Objective (2)
Recognize the limitations of generic AI and e-prescribe systems in addressing unique healthcare challenges.
Proposed Learning Objective (3)
Describe how machine learning and automation solutions will mark a step-function improvement in clinical reasoning over medical documentation.
